History Hunt Competition Announcement

History HuntGet out and about in the sunshine this summer and take part in the Lakenheath Village History Hunt, organised by the Friends of Lakenheath Library. Conceived by “Friends” Bill and Madeleine Rockett, the History Hunt will get you exploring and investigating the past and present of our local area, and open your eyes to village life in times gone by.

For a £1 entry fee you can pick up from the library a sheet of 20 historical questions about Lakenheath. But the fun doesn’t end there: once you have completed all 20, it is your chance to get creative and tell us all about your adventures in locating and discovering the answers. Whether this be in the form of a drawing, a collage, a poem or a short story (of no more than 500 words), is up to you!

The creative entries will be evaluated by special guest judge, local author and Royal Literary Fund Fellow Alison Bruce (author of Cambridge Blue, The Siren, The Calling, The Silence) and they will act as a tie breaker in the event of multiple entrants achieving the same score on the quiz.

This competition is open to children and families of all ages, and all entries should be returned to the library by Sunday 21st July 2013. The winner will be announced at the Lakenheath Carnival on 3rd August. The prize is a framed portrait of the winner taken by Stan Rolls of Lakenheath Camera Club, and the winner’s creative entry will be printed in a future issue of Lakenheath Times.

All proceeds raised will go towards providing library services and reducing the deficit in annual running costs. F.O.L.K. are also seeking funding to upgrade the public terminals in the library and install wireless internet access, enabling laptop and tablet users to use their own equipment on the premises.

So why not call into the library and pick up your Lakenheath Village History Hunt question sheet NOW!
